A young Crowley woman was killed early Sunday when she stepped out of a car and was struck by a hit-and-run driver on an Interstate 35W service road, police said.

Charayla McMillan, 21, had been riding in the back seat of a Mercury Grand Marquis when the vehicle pulled off Interstate 35W on a service road and stopped along a curb. The car had stopped because McMillan was nauseous, police said.

As McMillan stepped out, a pickup hit her, but the truck never stopped, police said.

The incident occurred shortly before 12:30 a.m. Sunday on the northbound service road in the 8900 block of Interstate 35W.

Police described the pickup as black, possibly a 1990s model GMC "work truck" with large tires. A toolbox was mounted in the bed of the truck with louvers on a rear window.

Anyone with information should call police at 817-392-4884 or Tarrant County Crime Stoppers at 817-469-8477.
