Darrell Browder was watching from his Arlington home Wednesday night as his alma mater shocked No. 5 Kansas.

Browder, the Horned Frogs' all-time leading scorer, doesn't make it out to a lot of games, but no one has ever spent more time on the floor at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.

TCU will honor Browder today, retiring the No. 24 jersey he wore from 1979-1983, during halftime of the Frogs' 3 p.m. game against West Virginia at DMC.

Browder, 52, heard ESPN announcers say Wednesday's upset was the biggest in school history, but he recalls beating Houston's Phi Slamma Jamma team that went to the Final Four in 1982, and upsetting sixth-ranked Arkansas in overtime in the Southwest Conference tournament in 1983.

"I liked seeing the students run out on the court," Browder said. "That was pretty special."

Browder played for legendary coach Robert Hughes at Fort Worth Dunbar before attending TCU, where he played for another local legend, Jim Killingsworth. Browder was first asked about being honored by former TCU coach Neil Dougherty almost 10 years ago.

"I kept putting it off," he said. "I told them they needed to get some of those other guys in first."

But few players put up better numbers than Browder. A three-time All-SWC first-team selection, he holds TCU records for points, minutes played and field goals. He also ranks in the top five in assists and steals.

"I played according to the music," he said. "If it was slow music, I could do that. If it was fast music, I could do that. I could handle the ball, so whatever you wanted, I could do. Scoring a lot of points wasn't ever anything I ever thought about."
