GOP lost me

I strongly disagree with the Sunday editorial, and with Congress, on the immigration proposals. (See: "Finally, bipartisan immigration plans")

Some actions need to be taken, like securing the border, enforcing E-Verify and removing illegals from several welfare programs. These proposed programs will only encourage more illegals to come here, and we will have 11 million more because the government will not implement the other parts of the programs first.

The same type programs enacted in 1986 didn't work. An article the Star-Telegram published from The Washington Post explained very clearly why such a program will not work: the border was not secured, and other actions were not completed.

The Republican Party better think twice about trying to get the Hispanic vote with such a program. They have lost me already, after some 40 years, and will lose a large number of members that are U.S. citizens.
