DENTON -- The North Texas women missed a chance to move into a tie for first place in the Sun Belt's West Division as hot-shooting Western Kentucky rolled to a 76-62 victory Thursday at the Super Pit.
Coming off a strong performance in a road win against Arkansas State last week, the Mean Green (9-14, 8-6 Sun Belt) shot only 35.2 percent from the field. The Hilltoppers (17-5, 10-3) shot 51.6 percent, meanwhile, including almost 60 percent (19 of 32) in building a 44-29 halftime lead."Our effort wasn't good enough tonight," North Texas coach Mike Petersen said."That has not been the case very often this season. Our effort and focus were not what they needed to be. ... This was maybe our worst effort of the year."Alexis Hyder, UNT's leading scorer this season, was held to five free throws through the first 31 minutes and finished with seven points.BreAnna Dawkins had 12 points in the first half and Loryn Goodwin scored 11 points in the second half, but those were the exceptions for UNT's offense.UNT cut WKU's 20-point second-half lead to 11 before fading.Have more to add?
