SAN MARCOS -- Breaking a nine-game losing streak, the UT Arlington women rallied in regulation and overtime to beat Texas State 73-72 Thursday night.

Chauntandra Williams, whose basket sent the game into overtime, scored on a layup with 3 seconds to play for the victory. Texas State had taken a 72-71 lead with 28 seconds remaining

It was only the second victory in 12 Western Athletic Conference games for the Mavericks (3-18).

"I thought we battled really hard," UTA coach Samantha Morrow said. "We had a lot of girls in foul trouble and our bench came in and held us within sticking distance."

Williams came off the bench to score 10 points in 16 minutes of playing time. Her layup with 9 seconds left in regulation forged a 65-65 tie.

Desherra Nwanguma led the Mavericks with 14 points, her fifth consecutive game in double figures. Jordan Holub scored a career-high 10 points. Kiara Parker picked up a double-double with 12 rebounds and 10 points.

Texas State (8-14, 2-11) led 40-30 at halftime. Rosalyn Thorpe and Laila Suleiman hit key baskets for UTA in a second-half run that tied the score.

TSU's Diamond Ford led scorers with 26 points.
