Grand Prairie firefighter injured battling house fire

GRAND PRAIRIE - A Grand Prairie firefighter was taken to the hospital after suffering an electrical shock at an early morning house fire, officials said.

Firefighters responded to a reported fire just before 1 a.m. in the 800 block of Cielo Vista Drive. A second alarm was called because the fire was spreading to adjacent homes and additional crews were needed to aid in rescue residents, according to a press release.

A man rescued from the house fire by his son and a home health nurse was transported to Medical Center of Arlington and is under evaluation.

A Grand Prairie firefighter was shocked by an electrical short during the fire and also was taken to the Medical Center but subsequently released, according to the press release.

Twenty-two firefighters battled the fire before it was extinguished.

One resident was rescued by his son, said Grand Prairie Fire Chief Robert Fite in a news release.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
