FORT WORTH -- A man was in critical condition Thursday morning after leading police on a brief chase in which he lost control of his car and struck a tree near the Texas Christian University campus, police said.

The man, who was not identified, was rushed to a local hospital.

The pursuit began shortly before 2 a.m. Thursday when officers attempted to stop a motorist speeding on University Drive. The driver also ran a red light at University Drive and Berry Street.

The motorist drove at high speed through neighborhoods, police said.

The driver lost control of his car at Overton Park Drive East and Bellaire Drive South, struck the tree and was ejected, police said.
