2012 record: 4-8

Players signed: 23 Signees from Texas: 19

Offense: After not signing a quarterback in 2012, the Mean Green landed Dajon Williams of Pflugerville Connally, a player coaches consider a project whose best days are a few years away. The immediate future at that position is a signee already on campus, Kansas transfer Brock Berglund, who officially became a member of the program with his signing on Wednesday.

Defense: Dan McCarney and his assistants continue to build depth and speed at defensive back, using five scholarships on secondary players. Among those is homegrown John Schilleci of Denton Guyer. The pass rush was noticeably deficit in 2012. It's hoped for that Quenton Brown, a 6-foot-5, 235-pound transfer from Eastern Arizona, can fill a gap at defensive end.

Immediate impact: In addition to Berglund's capability, Reggie Pegram, another transfer, from Purdue -- and the cousin of UNT hall of famer Erric Pegram -- is likely to move right into the rotation at running back.

Area ties: LB Fred Scott, Kennedale; OL Cody Nelson, Keller; TE Wylie Reinhardt, Saginaw
