If you haven't booked Valentine's dinner yet -- there's hope.
Some above-average restaurants still have tables available, although you might have to go early or late.
Cacharel in Arlington,
J.R's Steakhouse and
Tribeca Bistro in Colleyville and
Kirby's in Southlake all had midevening tables available early this week, along with both
Daddy Jack's Lobster & Chowder House locations.
J.R.'s has a particularly varied menu of $63, $73 or $83 dinners depending on courses and entrees.
Of the finer restaurants, several have tables early or late.
In the Cultural District,
La Piazza's menu features a choice of sea bass, veal scaloppine or cognac shrimp; $65, 817-334-0000, or book another weekend night.
Lanny's Alta Cocina has early or late tables for a $95 dinner featuring a choice of prime rib-eye or Tasmanian trout.
Ellerbe Fine Foods also has some tables.

Billy Bob's Texas will serve the first dinner in its new 81 Club, featuring a buffet with roast salmon or prime rib for $95 per couple, 817-624-7117.

Central Market in Fort Worth will offer a cooking class for two, featuring beef tenderloin with peppercorns, bacon-wrapped shrimp, sides and dessert, at 6:30 p.m.; $150 per couple, 817-377-9005,

Two golf course restaurants,
Ventana Grille in south Arlington and
Texas Star in Euless, will serve a special Valentine's menu.
Little Lilly Sushi or
Tokyo Cafe in Fort Worth, among others, and
Sushi Zushi in Southlake have tables available.
Three wineries,
Lightcatcher near Lakeside,
La Buena Vida in Grapevine and
Sunset in Burleson, have dinner specials (but are mostly booked).
The
Waffle House locations in Benbrook and Hudson Oaks will offer candlelight dinners.
Nobody does seasonal specials like
Blue Mesa Grill.
The Blue Mesa locations in Fort Worth and Southlake will launch their Texas Citrus Festival on Wednesday with a special midweek buffet and grapefruit-rhubarb margaritas.
The buffet will feature both grapefruit-serrano salmon and orange-Sriracha chicken, plus arugula-grapefruit salad and blood-orange or lemon-honey flan for $15.95.

Two of Dallas' most familiar old Tex-Mex restaurants have new locations.
Herrera's, known for its Maple Avenue location, has opened
Cafe Herrera in Mockingbird Station, beneath the Angelika movie theater at 5321 E. Mockingbird Lane; website coming at

Matt's Rancho Martinez, a spinoff of Matt's El Rancho in Austin, has moved across Lakewood to 1904 Skillman Ave.;
mattstexmex.com.
