An Irving man walked his 5-year-old daughter to a neighbor on Sunday afternoon, then returned home where he killed his wife and fatally shot himself in an apartment murder/suicide, Irving police said Monday.

The man left a note and family members were aware that the couple had been having marital problems, police said.

Authorities identified the victims as 44-year-old Luke Sy Dinh and his wife, Ha Thi Nguyen, 27. Nguyen was dead the scene and Dinh died at a local hospital.

Irving police responded to a report of a suspicious circumstance shortly before 1 p.m. Sunday in the 1800 block of Jordan Court.

When officers arrived, a resident told police that Dinh had walked over with his daughter and asked him to watch her.

Police attempted to contact Dinh at his home, but no one answered the front door.

When officers looked went to the back of the home and looked through a window, police saw a man lying on a floor.

Police got into the house and assisted the man, said Irving officer John Argumaniz, a department spokesman, in a news release.

Officers searched the house and found a woman later identified as Nguyen shot multiple times.

Authorities did not release any details about the note.

The 5-year-old was released to the custody of Child Protective Services.
