The Carroll Varsity Silver hockey team pounded Birdville 7-1 on Thursday night on the strength of a near-double hat trick from Colin Whitt.
Whitt scored at the 3:43 mark of the first period to give the Dragons a 1-0 lead heading into the second period on an assist from Blake McIntyre.Within the first three and half minutes of the second, Whitt had completed a hat trick to make it 3-0 Carroll on two assists from McIntyre and an assist from Griffin McManus.The Hawks finally scored near the end of the second period, and Carroll let 3-1 at the end of two.Whitt tacked on his fourth goal at the 1:25 mark of the third period on a power-play goal with assists from McManus and Conner Brady, and added a fifth unassisted goal less than four minutes later.Ashton Zenuk and Tyler Culp scored before the end of the third period to finish the game out.McManus and McIntyre both finished the game with three assists each, and the Dragons defense only allowed seven shots on goal, six of which were stopped by Christian Westerberg.Grapevine/Colleyville rallies, but loses in OTThe Grapevine/Colleyville Heritage Varsity Silver hockey team rallied with two late goals against Denton County on Thursday, but ended up losing 4-3 in overtime.Chris Finn actually drew first blood in the game for the Varsity Silver team, scoring a goal at the 8:42 mark of the first period with an assist from Joseph Barringhaus.Denton County then scored three unanswered goals between the second period and first part of the third, before Grapevine/Colleyville Heritage rallied.Ethan Smith scored an unassisted goal in the 12th minute of the third period, and Finn added his second of the night a few minutes later on an assist from Matthew Kruse.Denton County got the winning goal in overtime.Dragons win district, qualify 10 For regionThe Carroll wrestling team won its district wrestling meet on Saturday, qualifying two thirds of the team for the regional meet in the process.Cody Lindberg at 195 pounds, Michael Basler at 152, and Matt Spuria at 138 all won their weight classes to bring home district championships for the Dragons.Jack Ohlhaber finished second in the 145 pound weight class, while Rishin Patel at 182, Harry Chapman at 170, Jacob Swoyer at 132, Evan Lawson at 113, and female wrestler Simona Olarte at 165 all finished third at the tournament.Zach Schmidt at 126 and Baron Walsh at 120 both took fourth place in their weight classes.Covenant boys cruise against CCAThe Colleyville Covenant Christian boys basketball team made quick work of Carrollton Christian Academy on Friday night, winning 59-34 to improve to 8-0 in district competition.The Cougars outscored CCA 37-11 in the second and third quarter to seal the deal early.Trey and Trent Jackson and Donovan Jeanne all scored 12 points in the game for Covenant, while Joseph Goff and Austin Troup each scored seven points a piece.Luke Jordan, Tanner Rogers, Chris Shurtleff and Jack Niles all combined for nine points in the game.FWC nips Faith ChristianThe Grapevine Faith Christian Academy boys basketball team came up just short against Fort Worth Christian on Friday night, losing 45-43 despite a 15-9, fourth quarter run.Dalton Standish led the team in scoring with 12 points, while Tyler Dixon had nine points in the game.Carter Bras, Kyle Carter, Riley Lynch and Zach Postema combined for 22 points in the game.Colleyville Heritage qualifies 4 for regionThe Colleyville Heritage wrestling team qualified four athletes for this year's regional wrestling tournament this past weekend.Thomas Graf, Caleb Endert, Jordan Gomez and Donovan Kleckner are all headed to region for the Panthers.Endert and Kleckner both advanced to the state meet last season.Have more to add?
