JONESBORO, Ark. -- Freshman Alexis Hyder poured in a career-high 23 points, and Sara Stanley had 12 points and 11 rebounds as North Texas pulled within a game of first-place Arkansas State in the Sun Belt West Division, winning 64-62.
UNT (9-13, 8-5 Sun Belt) ended Arkansas State's seven-game winning streak. ASU is 12-10, 9-4."They played well on their home court, but I thought we kept our poise pretty well," UNT coach Mike Petersen said. "This is a huge win for us, there is absolutely no question about that."UNT trailed 32-30 at halftime after nine lead changes. Hyder scored nine points in the half.In the second half, Desiree Nelson's 3-pointer gave UNT a 44-42 lead with 12 minutes to play. The Red Wolves kept it close to the end, and UNT's Laura McCoy rebounded a late Arkansas State miss to preserve a two-point lead in the final minute."I think we have set the table for some really interesting games down the stretch," Petersen said.Have more to add?
