ARLINGTON -- A dismal first half doomed the UT Arlington women's basketball team to its ninth straight loss of the season Saturday.

Louisiana Tech shot 52 percent in the first half and held the Mavericks to 25 percent shooting to go into halftime leading 36-19 before cruising to a 78-62 win at College Park Center.

UTA's losing streak is the third longest in school history, and the Mavericks also have lost 13 straight home games.

"We had some good looks but we didn't knock them down," UTA head coach Samantha Morrow said. "When you want to win so bad that you start trying to force some things instead of letting the game come to you, and I felt like that's what happened to our players in the first half."

The Mavs' first-half shooting percentage was their second lowest of the season.

The Bulldogs (10-11, 6-4 WAC) started the game on a 18-7 run. Junior forward Desherra Nwanguma scored all of UTA's points in that span.

The Mavericks (3-17, 1-9) would make the score 18-11 with 12:05 left in the half but would manage only three more field goals before halftime.

The Mavericks' struggles continued in the second half as the Bulldogs went on a 9-0 run that covered the first 2:10 of the second half.

Trailing 46-26, the Mavericks would go 6:17 without scoring a field goal, allowing the Bulldogs to cruise to victory.

The Mavericks' next two games are on the road against Texas State on Thursday and UT San Antonio on Saturday.
