A Grand Prairie man was arrested Thursday afternoon in Dallas by authorities who had been searching for him since Tuesday when a woman was killed in front of her three children, police said.

The woman's mother was wounded.

Christopher Darrell Jefferson, 31, was in the Grand Prairie Jail on Thursday night with bail set at $1 million, Detective Mark Beseda, a police spokesman, said in a news release.

Officers responded to a shooting call shortly before 11 a.m. Tuesday in the 2000 block of Eva Street.

Latoya McGowan, 24, and her mother were found wounded, and both were taken to Methodist Dallas Medical Center.

"During the investigation, it was determined that the suspect shot the mother of his children, as well as her mother," Beseda said in a news release. "During the shooting, the children were present and witnessed [the] suspect shoot both mom and grandma."

He described them as "three small children."

McGowan died later at the hospital; her mother was treated and released, Beseda said.

Investigators found that the shootings occurred after a dispute, but the case is under investigation, Beseda said.
