The Star-Telegram does its readers a disservice when it publishes letters that contain and promote the "big lie." Julie Wende's Jan. 24 letter states that Democratic candidates receive an unfair advantage when unions use dues money to promote those candidates. (See: "Unfair advantage") But it is illegal for unions or businesses to donate money to political candidates except through their political action committees.
Contributions to PACs are strictly voluntary and do not come from union dues. Dues money goes into the general revenue fund of the union and cannot be used for political candidates.If Democrats really did have an unfair advantage because of union contributions, Tarrant County would be blue.
