Elizabeth Crowling, a three-sport athlete from Dallas Hillcrest High School who is the top-ranked student in her class, has been selected as the recipient of the Davey O'Brien High School Scholarship Award by members of the Davey O'Brien Foundation.
Crowling, a senior, has been a four-year varsity athlete in cross country, softball and swimming. Crowling will receive a $30,000 scholarship to the college of her choice and will be honored at the Davey O'Brien awards dinner, Feb. 18 at The Fort Worth Club.Other finalists included L.D. Bell's Kaitlyn Duda, Fort Worth Country Day's Meghann Kasal, Hebron's Dallas Schray and Episcopal School of Dallas' Anna Hansell. Each of the four finalists will receive a $2,500 scholarship.-- Jimmy BurchBen Hogan AwardTCU golfer Julien Brun, a sophomore from France who won an event as an amateur on the European Challenge Tour last year, is one of 27 players on the watch list for the Ben Hogan Award, given to the nation's top college golfer.Brun, who won in September at the Allianz Golf Open Toulouse Metropole on Europe's developmental tour, was joined Wednesday on the watch list by three fellow Big 12 golfers: Texas' Brandon Stone, Oklahoma State's Talor Gooch and Iowa State's Scott Fernandez.California had the most golfers on the watch list, with four: Brandon Hagy, Max Homa, Michael Kim and Michael Weaver.A list of 10 semifinalists, which could include individuals not on Wednesday's watch list, will be released April 18. Conference USA: The six new schools will be split evenly among the two divisions next football season. The conference announced its football schedule and new division alignments. League newcomers Louisiana Tech, North Texas and UT San Antonio will be in the West with returning teams Tulsa, Rice, UTEP and Tulane. Middle Tennessee and Florida Atlantic will be with newcomer FIU in the East along with returnees East Carolina, Marshall, UAB and Southern Miss.
