Keller Varsity Silver hockey team loses tough game to Frisco

The Keller Varsity Silver hockey team got off to a strong start against Frisco last Thursday night, but came up short, losing 5-1 to the Raccoons.

Chris Schultz drew first blood in the game, scoring for the varsity silver team just 50 seconds into the game on an unassisted goal to make it 1-0 Keller.

The varsity silver team held the lead for nearly 10 minutes before Frisco finally broke through and then went on to win the game, out-shooting Keller 31-22 in the contest.

Keller will take on Garland/Bishop Lynch at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday at the NYTEX Sports Arena.

Nelson cheer team places nationally

The Byron Nelson High School Cheer team placed 13th in the nation at the National Cheerleading Association's competition.

Cancer Scrimmage Fest set for early February

Keller ISD is hosting a "Cancer Scrimmage Fest" on Feb. 2 at KYA Softball complex.

The event is to raise awareness about ovarian cancer and will feature 13 teams participating in a softball tournament.

According to a news release, "the Ovarian Cancer Society, Komen Breast Cancer, Texas Oncology and CareNow are all going to be at the event giving out information and taking donations."

High School cheerleading tryouts set

Tryouts for the Keller ISD Cheerleading squads are set, and times and dates are non negotiable.

According to a news release, "all candidates and at least one parent must attend one of the mandatory parent meetings for more information and paperwork. Packets will only be given out at the parent meetings. "

Meetings will be held at 7 p.m.

Dates and locations are as follows:

Wednesday, Jan. 30 at Timber Creek HS

Thursday, Jan. 31 at Central HS

Packets are due at the high school office where the student is trying out by 4 p.m. on Feb. 19.

The three-day tryouts will be held from 4-7 p.m. at the high school where student is trying out.

Dates are as follows:

Monday, March 4

Tuesday, March 5

Wednesday, March 6

Thursday, March 7 (if needed, as determined by coach)

High school tryout results will be posted at 4 p.m. on March 8.
