Hawk Chat

Timberview Middle School hosts a weekly chat session on Twitter for students, parents and educators to discuss educational topics. The sessions, under the term "#TMSHawkChat," are held at 8 p.m. each Tuesday when school is in session. Upcoming topics include celebrating Digital Learning Day on Feb. 5 and developing organizational skills for learning on Feb. 12. Participants join the online chats from across the United States.

"Fit Worth"

Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price will visit Bette Perot Elementary School Jan. 30 to be a guest runner at the Bette Perot Running Club. Price is promoting "Fit Worth," a Healthy City Initiative to encourage businesses, schools, faith communities and charities to host activities to promote exercise and making healthy choices. The running club meets every Wednesday at 3 p.m. at the field behind the school.

Northwest ISD

NISD Seeking Name Nominations

Trustees and administrators at Northwest school district are offering the community the chance to submit nominations for naming Elementary School 17 and Comprehensive High School 3. An online form is at through Feb. 7. After the naming committee reviews the recommendations, Trustees will vote on the names at their March 18 school board meeting.

Northwest Launches Text Service

This month, Northwest school district is adding text messaging notifications as another communication tool to parents and staff. The district will send a one-time message Wednesday to cell phone numbers in the student information database in order to invite parents and staff that have not completed the opt-in process.

To opt out of the service, parents should not respond to the text. To update information in the student information database, parents can contact the child's campus. For more go to

Big Reveal

The Academy of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics students will host the fourth annual Community Reveal from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Jan. 31 in the Student Union at Northwest High School, 2301 Texan Drive. Freshman students will present their School of the Future designs and models.

Online Parent Survey Available in February

Parents can provide valuable feedback by completing the Northwest school district's 2012-13 Parent Survey. Surveys will be sent to parent email addresses Feb. 4-15. A hard copy is available on request. For more information, call (817) 215-0171.
