ARLINGTON -- A stellar second half performance by San Jose State's Ta'Rea Cunnigan helped the Spartans to a 78-70 win over UT Arlington at the College Park Center.

The loss extends UTA's losing streak to eight, tied for the third longest in school history.

Cunnigan, who averages 21 points a game, is second in the conference in scoring. She won't hurt her standing after pouring in 30 on Saturday, including 20 in the second half.

UTA head coach Samantha Morrow said Cunnigan, a 5-foot-9 sophomore guard, simply imposed her will against the Mavericks.

"She did everything that we knew she was capable of and she did whatever she wanted to do tonight," Morrow said.

There were 13 lead changes and four ties early in the game but the Spartans (8-12, 5-4) closed out the first half with a 15-8 run to take a 38-29 halftime lead.

Mavericks' junior forward Aron Garcia, who led the team with 19 points, had nine of the team's final 11 points of the half.

The Mavericks (3-16, 1-8) cut the Spartans lead to 38-34 within the first minute of the second half but Cunnigan took over, scoring 12 of the Spartans' first 17 second half points to give San Jose State a 55-40 lead with 12:04 to play.

Trailing 61-44, the Mavericks used a 10-0 run -- highlighted by sophomore guard Chauntandra Williams' six points -- to cut the lead to 61-54 with 5:36 left.

The Mavericks pulled within four points on four occasions inside the final four minutes but could never get closer.

The Mavericks turned the ball over 30 times. They are 0-8 at home this season and 1-12 since moving into College Park Center last season.
