SAN JOSE, Calif. -- UT Arlington went on a 15-0 run that covered nearly seven minutes in the second half on the way to a 66-47 victory over San Jose State in Western Athletic Conference men's basketball on Saturday night.
The victory lifts the Mavericks' record to 8-2 in games away from home. UTA is 10-8 overall and 5-4 in conference games. The Spartans fall to 9-11 and 3-6.Greg Gainey led the Mavericks with 17 points. Kevin Butler scored 13 points in a reserve role and Shaquille White-Miller added 12.San Jose State had gone on an 11-0 run to cut a 45-24 deficit to 45-35 with 12:15 remaining in the game.But the Mavericks reeled off 15 unanswered points to storm to a 60-35 lead. Not until Aalim Moor hit a 3-pointer with 5:35 left did the Spartans stop the onslaught.White-Miller began the run by hitting the front end of a 1-and-1 free throw.
