GRAND PRAIRIE -- Police are seeking the public's help in finding a car that ran a red light Thursday evening and fatally struck a 6-year-old boy who was in a crosswalk ahead of his mother who was pushing a 2-year-old in a stroller.

John Raidy was crossing North Carrier Parkway at Holiday Hills Drive at 7:30 p.m. when he was hit by a southbound car, police said. The driver "stopped briefly" but left, heading south on North Carrier.

John was taken by ambulance to Arlington Memorial Hospital where he died, police said.

The family had the green light, and the car's signal had been red for 14 seconds when the driver ran it, according to a news release from Sgt. Eric Hansen, a police spokesman. John was a few feet ahead of his mother and the stroller.

Witnesses said the car appeared to be a newer model black or dark blue four-door hatchback or small SUV with headlights and tail lights that wrap around the corners. It also had "a rear axle that is close to the rear of the vehicle," the news release stated. It likely has minor front-end damage.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Grand Prairie police at 972-237-8790. -- Alex Branch
