Chet Taylor, in his Jan. 19 letter, "Think of the children," said that restricting marriage to heterosexual couples works in the best interest of children, and he attempted to make his point by making philosophical statements to appeal to people's emotions, probably to hide the fact that he failed to provide any factual evidence.
Marriage and parenting do go hand-in-hand. However, years of scientific research have shown that children raised by same-sex couples are just as well off in their upbringing as children raised by opposite-sex couples. Therefore, same-sex parenting is supported by various professional organizations, such as the American Academy of Pediatrics, American Psychiatric Association and National Association of Social Workers, among others.-- Mathew Shaw, ArlingtonHave more to add?
