Many of your older readers may remember a advertising feature that ran for awhile called "Getting Personal."

It was an enjoyable and safe way for single people in the Metroplex to meet. Replies were sent to an assigned post office box and forwarded to the senders.

I was a confirmed bachelor and enjoyed my lifestyle, but I read the letters every week just for fun. One morning, I found a letter that greatly intrigued me. I immediately noticed two things about the writer: She was very intelligent and had a great sense of humor. This was the only letter I responded to, and in week or so I received a call.

We met and were married in the fall. We still have that letter, and it's in good shape, even though it was written 25 years ago today (Jan. 27, 1988).
