UT Arlington men hold off Utah State

LOGAN, Utah -- Karol Gruszecki led a balanced offense with 14 points and UTA pulled away in the second half to beat Utah State 74-68 in Western Athletic Conference men's basketball on Thursday night.

Cameron Catlett and Brandon Edwards each had 13 points and the Mavericks evened their league record at 4-4 and upped their season record to 9-8. Utah State falls to 14-4 and 5-3.

Shaq White-Miller had 11 points for UTA, and Greg Gainey chipped in with 10.

UTA snapped a two-game WAC losing streak.

"It's a great feeling especially after last week," UTA coach Scott Cross said. "To come in here and get a win against a really good team is huge."

With the score tied 48-48 with 10:53 remaining, UTA went on a 6-0 run and never trailed again. Jordan Reves, Catlett and Drew Charles each hit two free throws as the Mavericks took a 54-48 lead with 8:18 remaining.

Edwards had a three-point play and Kevin Butler had back-to-back layups.

The Mavericks hit 25 of 34 free-throw attempts for 73.5 percent.
