In the book Slingin' Sam by Joe Holley, there is a quote from a letter written to the Star-Telegram in 1935 (Page 46) from Shelly Powers of Justin.

The letter was actually from my father, Shelby Powers, who often talked about naming the Cotton Bowl but said, "They never gave me credit."

Our family was thrilled to see this quote in the book, verifying what our dad always claimed. He was a Minneapolis Moline farm equipment dealer in Justin and dealt closely with cotton farmers there.

He loved writing, was an avid sports fan, had many pen pals and often created plays on words -- "Boll-Bowl," for example.

He died many years ago but would be so happy to be given this recognition. It would be kind of you to give him the correct name.
