Cutting spending

So let me get this straight.

As a private citizen, I am responsible for my own finances. If I can't pay my bills, I am encouraged to cut my spending by trimming expenses that may not be necessary, like eating out at restaurants, buying things I don't necessarily need, etc.

I am encouraged to clip coupons and save money wherever I can for the sake of my family. Conserving energy at home is encouraged on a national level to not only save money but also help our country with the energy crisis.

So why is our current administration saying to its citizens, "Do as I say, not as I do" and "Anyone who disagrees with our out-of-control spending plan is an uncaring rich right-wing conservative"?

I think I'll try to use this logic on my creditors and see if they forgive me for spending more than I earn and not being able to pay my bills.

I will tell them, "Sorry, I can't cut down on my spending; there is nothing I can do without."

What's wrong with this picture?
