FW funding priorities

Our Fort Worth City Council cut the Arts Council funding by 25 percent because of misplaced priorities.

If budget cuts are required, then rather than cutting arts, libraries and swimming pools, the council should cut the police and fire budget. Our Police Department could spend less time on traffic control, and our firefighters should spend less time on medical emergencies better served by ambulances.

I wonder whether the high priority placed on police and firefighters might be due partly to their union's donations to City Council campaigns.
