Stars at Red Wings

6:30 tonight, Joe Louis Arena, Detroit

TV: FSSW Radio: KTCK/1310 AM

Records: Stars 1-1, 2 points; Red Wings 1-1, 2 points

Notable: Nick Lidstrom retired during the off-season and is now a scout for the Red Wings. They'll miss him, but there is plenty of talent left. ... Goalie Jimmy Howard was rocked in the season-opening 6-0 loss at St. Louis, but that doesn't tarnish a résumé that includes 35 wins per season since he took over the full-time job in 2009-10.... Detroit's strength is the play of its forwards, and there are plenty of them. Pavel Datsyuk, Henrik Zetterberg, Johan Franzen and Valtteri Filppula will keep the Red Wings as serious Stanley Cup contenders.... Goalie Cristopher Nilstorp stopped 31 shots in his first career start with the Stars in a 1-0 loss against the Wild on Sunday in St. Paul.... The Stars have been outshot 72-50 in the first two games.... The Stars are 6-8 on penalty kills and 2-8 on power plays this season.
