The Little Texan Wrestling Club recently competed in The Battle @ 377 Tournament in Argyle. The youth club team took seven wrestlers, and four finished in the top four of their respective weight brackets, with two taking first.
Javin Vegas, 12, was the 110-pound champion and Sam Ruelas, 13, was first at 142 pounds. Gavin Lane, 10, finished 3rd at 80 pounds and Jack Bookout, 9, finished second at 70 pounds."Everybody that competed wrestled really hard," said Nick McClellan, head coach. "And I am proud of all of them. We still have some things to work on, but we are improving."The team is still accepting new wrestlers, boys and girls age 4-15. Those interested can contact McClellan at 214-636-0377.Keller hockey pulls out 3-2 OT winThe Keller Varsity Silver hockey team got past Denton County last Thursday, winning 3-2 in overtime.Keller's Chris Schutlz opened scored just 1:08 into the game before Denton County's Andrew Johnson answered less than a minute later.The second period was scoreless for both teams, setting up a tight third period.Johnson scored again on a power play, with an assist from Dylan DeRozario.Keller came back to tie the game and take it into overtime when Schultz again scored for Keller. The assist was credited to Barron Morris.Blake Ong settled things in Keller's favor in the overtime period when he scored at the 3:34 mark.Keller now faces Frisco, while Denton County squares off against Dallas Jesuit on Thursday.Lady Chargers soccer goes 2-2 at tournamentKeller Central's girls soccer team picked up two wins and two losses over the weekend, playing in the Vernon Newsom Tournament in Mansfield.In the opening game of the tournament on Friday, the Lady Chargers beat Paschal, 2-0. Goals were scored by Abby Aldrich (Kaylee Rose assist), and Kristina Schultz (Carrington Elliott assist).Saturday's first two games were identical 3-1 losses to Mansfield and Mansfield Legacy.Central came back later on Saturday to take a 1-0 victory over Midlothian.
