Starting into the second trip through the district schedule always proves to be a decisive element of the playoff race.

For Timber Creek boys basketball, it can be a pivotal week, as the Falcons take on Central and Richland.

Entering the week at 3-4 in the district standings, head coach Brad Mouser's Falcons were hoping to replicate their Dec. 18 win over Central, but turn around the outcome of their first face-off with Richland.

Last Friday, Timber Creek lost to third place Carroll, 68-56.

Manny Calton led all scorers for Timber Creek with 21 points, with Dare Brazeal pitching in nine for the Falcons.

Ray Munson, the Falcons' leading scorer through the season thus far, managed just four points in the outing against the Dragons.

Timber Creek had a 27-26 lead at the half and went into the fourth stanza with a two-point lead. But a dismal eight-point output gave way to a 14-point differential in the quarter and the final score's deficit.

Friday's game at Richland could help keep Timber Creek (13-11) in the race for a playoff spot. The Falcons are currently in fifth place in District 4-5A, just a game back of fourth-place Northwest.

Northwest was able to push itself into the top half of the district standings with a surprising 42-23 win over Keller.

The loss by Keller dropped them into a tie with Richland at 6-1.

Keller was to play Fossil Ridge on Tuesday, with results unavailable at the press deadline.

The Indians will host Haltom on Friday and are coming off a 48-38 win at Central last Friday.

Austyn Kenndy pumped in 24 against Central, with Mike Opolski adding 10 points.

Central's Jordan Enloe scored 15 for the Chargers, while Naythan Steele scored 10.

Fossil Ridge, at 2-5 in the district, hopes a few twists in its favor the second time around in district play will help the team forge a surge into the middle of the pack and hopes for a playoff spot.

The Panthers lost to Northwest last Friday, 63-47.

Ryan Parker continues to stay hot for Fossil Ridge, as he scored 22 in the loss to Northwest. Also scoring in double figures was Chris Kouakou, who had 13.

After the Keller game Tuesday, Fossil Ridge's tilt with Central on Friday could help start things going in the right direction again.

In the first meeting with Central, the Panthers posted a 20-point win.

The Panthers will then have struggling Haltom on the schedule for next Tuesday.
