Summit boys top Lancaster

After a loss in the final seconds to Legacy, the Summit boys basketball team got back on track with a 60-59 win against Lancaster on Friday.

Summit entered the fourth quarter with a seven-point lead and withstood Lancaster's late rally. The Jaguars prevailed thanks to some balanced scoring, with four players in double figures.

Terrance Hubby led the way with 16 points and Lovell Cabbil scored 15 for Summit. Lancaster's Kealson Wilson scored a game-high 21 points.

Mansfield boys fall to DeSoto

The Mansfield boys basketball team gave the top-ranked DeSoto Eagles everything they could handle on Friday night before DeSoto pulled away in the second half with a 65-45 win.

Mansfield kept up with DeSoto throughout the first half, trailing 19-14 after the first quarter and even outscoring DeSoto 10-8 in the second quarter to only trail by three at halftime.

But the Eagles showed why they're the No. 1 ranked team in Class 5A in the second half. DeSoto took control of the game in the third quarter, outscoring Mansfield 22-7 and ending the Tigers' upset hopes.

Terry Maston scored a game-high 22 points to lead DeSoto. Micah Littlejohn led Mansfield with 18 points.

Timberview girls fall short in overtime

Timberview came up a few plays short, falling to the District 7-5A-leading Duncanville Lady Panthers 69-61 in overtime on Friday.

The Lady Wolves almost pulled off the upset against the top-ranked Lady Panthers, getting a deep, fading three-pointer at the buzzer from Terriell Bradley to send the game into overtime.

But to get to overtime, Timberview's leading scorer, Lili Thompson, fouled out while trying to stop the clock and extend the game for the Lady Wolves. Thompson scored 18 points and her presence was noticeable as the Timberview offense looked sluggish in the overtime period.

The Lady Wolves only scored two points in overtime. Duncanville's Ariel Atkins scored a game-high 23 points to lead the Lady Panthers. Bradley finished with 14 points for Timberview.

Summit girls continue to roll

After dropping a 45-40 loss to Red Oak on its home court, the Summit Lady Jaguars have been winning big.

Summit has won three consecutive games by an average margin of 31 points per game. The Lady Jaguars' latest victim was Lancaster, with Summit winning 61-25 on Friday.

The Lady Jaguars dominated throughout, holding Lancaster to just 14 points after three quarters.

Summit had three players score in double figures with Stylz Sanders leading the way with 14 points. Destiny Strange scored 13 points and Keanna Kelly notched 11 points for Summit.
