Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Parade and Rally, 11 a.m., downtown Fort Worth. Begins at Ninth and Commerce streets, heads north on Commerce, goes west on Weatherford Street, turns south on Houston Street, finishes at Water Gardens Events Plaza.
Third annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service, Tarrant Area Community of Churches. Event begins with sign-in at 8:30 a.m. at Baker Chapel A.M.E. Church, 1050 E. Humbolt St., Fort Worth. After an hour of worship, participants will do a variety of projects before concluding with lunch at Broadway Baptist Church, 305 W. Broadway Ave., Fort Worth. www.tarrantareacc.org
2013 Esteem the Dream of Dr. King/26th annual MLK Day of Service, 9 a.m., Harmony Missionary Baptist Church, 7510 John T. White Road, Fort Worth. Focuses on "Excel Beyond Jail: How Texas is Leading the Way on Prison Reform, Redemption and Recovery." State Rep. Jerry Madden will receive the Southern Christian Leadership Conference's MLK Freedom and Justice Award. Also: Design and development work on the Harmony Outdoor Classroom and the "On the Brink of a Blessing" Fruit Orchard in honor of the late journalist Betty Brink.
What's open, closed
All public school campuses, some school district administration offices, banks, the U.S. Postal Service, the stock market, nonessential federal, state and county offices, and some municipal offices and courts will be closed today.
School district offices open: Fort Worth, Hurst-Euless-Bedford and Grapevine-Colleyville.
School district offices closed: Arlington, Carroll, Birdville, Keller and Mansfield
City offices open: Azle, Hurst, Euless, Bedford, Haltom City, Richland Hills, Colleyville, Watauga, Everman, Lake Worth, Saginaw, River Oaks and White Settlement.
City offices closed: Fort Worth, Arlington, North Richland Hills, Southlake, Forest Hill, Mansfield, Kennedale and Westworth Village.
Transportation: The Fort Worth Transportation Authority's administrative offices will be closed, but buses, Mobility Impaired Services (MITS), Molly the Trolley, the Trinity Railway Express and customer service will operate a regular weekday schedule. Arlington Handitran services will be closed.
Trash pickup: No trash/recycle pickups are affected.
