Two Carrollton patrol officers and a suspected drunken driver sitting in their car were injured Sunday morning when another suspected drunken driver rear-ended the patrol car, Carrollton police said.

All four were taken to nearby hospitals, but no one suffered life-threatening injuries, authorities said.

The identities of the officers and suspects were not released.

The wreck occurred about 6 a.m. Sunday in the 2500 block of northbound Interstate 35E at the President George Bush Turnpike in Carrollton.

The officers who were in separate cars had stopped a suspected DWI motorist and placed him in the backseat of one of the patrol cars, authorities said.

Soon afterward, the officers heard a dispatcher receive a 911 call about another possible DWI motorist in a black sedan driving northbound on the highway.

Within seconds, the black sedan rear-ended the officer's patrol car with the arrested suspect inside.

Both officers were treated and released from the hospital.

The two suspects face DWI and other charges, authorities said.
