With the 2012 count in for suicides in the armed forces (See: "An epidemic that cannot be ignored," Tuesday), it's apparent this prevalent problem needs serious intervention. We must bring our soldiers home from the killing fields of Afghanistan!

Some of our brave soldiers either had or developed depression and other mental problems while deployed serving their country. Unemployment, financial problems or a compounding psychological problem when they return home can exacerbate the situation.

For some, their background theme is like the old song, "What Am I Living For?" Suicide seems the definitive solution: to come home at last, for good. Until you've walked there in a soldier's boots, you can only imagine the conditions in Afghanistan.

President Barack Obama, please bring our troops home!
