Fort Worth Trimble Tech used a late 13-1 run Friday at Billingsley Fieldhouse to hold off Fort Worth Arlington Heights and take a 56-48 victory in a crucial District 7-4A matchup.
Treyon Randolph came off the bench to lead the Bulldogs with 14 points, and sophomore post Spencer Franklin controlled the paint with 13 points and 16 rebounds.
It was Randolph who ignited the run on Tech's final possession of the third quarter. The senior hit his second 3-pointer with eight seconds to play in the third and gave the Bulldogs (16-7, 6-1 in 7-4A) the lead 39-37 going into the fourth.
"I bring [Randolph] off the bench this year for just that reason -- to give us that spark," Trimble Tech coach Wendell Ivory said. "He knows how to settle everything down. He's a veteran."
Over the next five minutes, Trimble Tech did not allow a field goal for Heights (14-8, 5-2) as the Bulldogs opened a 49-38 lead with just over three minutes to play.
"In the fourth quarter, once we got down, I think we got in too big of a rush," Heights coach Jon Wagner said. "We didn't stick to the game plan."
