A Weatherford man, soaked in blood, told investigators who found a body under a blanket in a Springtown house that he killed the man with a pickax, the Parker County sheriff's department reported Thursday.

Nicholas David Camfield, 24, was in the Parker County Jail Thursday night facing a murder charge. Bail was set at $1 million.

"This was a particularly brutal homicide," Sheriff Larry Fowler said in a news release.

Wednesday night, a caller to 911 reported that a friend was missing and had been with Camfield. Deputies went to a house in the 200 block of Valley Meadows Drive in Springtown about 11:30 p.m.

The deputies found Camfield, covered in blood, inside the house. He said he had been house-sitting.

A body was in the bedroom. The man appeared to be in his 20s. Camfield said the man was an acquaintance.

Deputies and Texas Rangers continue to investigate, the news release says.

Camfield has been arrested eight other times in Parker County. The offenses have included public intoxication and receiving stolen checks.
