The estranged boyfriend of a woman who was found dead Sunday in her Grand Prairie apartment was arrested Thursday afternoon, police said.

Larry Fikes, 38, faces a murder charge in the death of Angela Bynum, 32, who was found dead by a friend who went to check on her after she didn't show up for work, police said.

Fikes was arrested about 1 p.m. by Grand Prairie police and U.S. marshals, Detective Lyle Gensler, a police spokesman, said.

"The suspect is the estranged boyfriend of the victim and they have a child together," Gensler wrote in a news release. "The child is safe and in protective custody."

A warrant for Fikes was developed "based on forensic evidence collected at the crime scene," Gensler wrote.

Further details could not be learned Thursday afternoon.

According to earlier reports, police were called about 3:30 a.m. Sunday to The Clairborne Apartments in the 2300 block of North Texas 360 by Bynum's friend.

Officers learned that Bynum had a 13-month-old son who was not in the apartment. A short time later, the son was found with his father, later identified as Fikes. The child has been placed with grandparents, police said.
