LaDainian Tomlinson joins Tanglewood students to kick off Super Bowl food drive
Students at Tanglewood Elementary School in Fort Worth on Tuesday kicked off the 2013 Souper Bowl for Caring campaign, an effort to combat hunger by raising $1.3 million in cash and food items in North Texas.
Former TCU running back LaDainian Tomlinson joined other dignitaries in the school gym for the event, although unexpected winter weather delayed its start.
Students displayed art projects depicting the number of people at risk of hunger and performed a skit about donating canned food that was set to Gangnam Style, a popular video by a Korean rapper, said Cristina Curtis Barbe, a spokeswoman for the organization. Schools, businesses and churches participate in the national Souper Bowl of Caring campaign, which runs through Super Bowl Sunday. People who want to donate can purchase pre-packaged bags of food items or make cash donations at Albertsons, Market Street, Kroger and Tom Thumb stores.
