IRVING -- A North Richland Hills police officer was slightly injured Monday night in a wreck that happened as he unsuccessfully chased a vehicle into Irving, police said.

The officer, whose name was not released, declined to go to the hospital, police Sgt. Ed Wright, a spokesman, said.

The collision was with a vehicle not involved in the chase. That car and the patrol car collided in the intersection of the access road for Texas 183 and MacArthur Boulevard. Two people in that vehicle were also hurt, Wright said.

Information about their injuries was not immediately available.

The incident began at 7:25 p.m. when the officer saw a white sedan going in and out of parking lots along Bedford-Euless Road. The car then ran a red light before moving onto eastbound Texas 183, Wright said.

The officer signaled to the car to pull over, but it sped away and the chase was on, Wright said.

"At Belt Line Road, the vehicle slowed down, and a passenger jumped out and ran away," Wright said. "He was not captured."

The car took the Story Road exit but stayed on the access road, Wright said. The pursuit continued until the crash at the MacArthur Boulevard intersection.

The driver in the white car escaped, Wright said.
