The mother of a 13-month-old child was found dead early Sunday at her Grand Prairie apartment by a friend who went to check on her after she didn't show up for work, Grand Prairie police said.

Authorities are investigating the death as a homicide, but they did not release details. The victim's identity was not immediately released.

Police responded at about 3:30 a.m. Sunday to The Clairborne Apartments, which are in the 2300 block of North Texas 360 in Grand Prairie. The friend told investigators that the woman was not at work the night before, so she drove to her apartment to check on her.

The friend walked in and found her dead, according to a Grand Prairie police news release.

During the investigation, authorities determined that the woman had been living with her 13-month-old son, who was not at home, police said.

Shortly after the woman was found, her son was located with his father. Police said the father is aiding the investigation.
