As a 40-year resident of Hurst, I have been very impressed with our police department, and now as a volunteer with the department doing Citizens on Patrol and other services, I am even more impressed.

It was very unfortunate that the recent event with the police officer took place and was shown on YouTube, but it has not changed my views. The officer is likely not a bad person, but all employers have the right to set standards they want their employees to observe.

Our police department works hard to support and assist Hurst residents, and I applaud them. When I was hired as a pilot for a major airline after serving in the U.S. Navy, we were told, "if you have a bumper sticker showing you are one of our employees, be careful how you drive."

When a person is representing any business or employer, they need to make sure they are representing them properly, in addition to doing their job.
