President Obama's choice for secretary of defense, Chuck Hagel, shows he can be bipartisan by reaching across the aisle in the political factions of Washington. Obama is charismatic and has the wherewithal to fight for his prerogative in getting Hagel confirmed.
It doesn't matter that Hagel exercised his First Amendment rights with some remarks he made about the Iraq war, Israel and a gay ambassador, as his resume alone supersedes any negative feelings about his comments. Hagel is a Vietnam veteran and has been chairman, CEO and president of various organizations and a United States senator. What other qualifications would he need to pass the litmus test for secretary of defense?I commend President Obama for "sticking to his guns" in all his choices to fill vacancies in his administration and defending his appointees.-- Fred Ream, Fort WorthHave more to add?
