At the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine, leadership is compromised, and the ambitions of UNT System Chancellor, Lee Jackson are proving malignant for TCOM and Fort Worth.

In his pursuit of Tier 1 research status for UNT, the chancellor shows no understanding of the promise of osteopathic medical education to Fort Worth and Texas. The osteopathic philosophy -- treating the whole person and focusing on prevention of illness -- encompasses the future of medicine for everyone.

The president of the UNT Health Science Center has been removed but not the force that brought him to Fort Worth.

TCOM has proven its merit as recognized by U.S. News & World Report in its "Top Medical Schools" for a decade. TCOM is capable of producing the best primary care physicians in the nation.

TCOM, a crown jewel of Fort Worth, unfortunately, is a gambling chip to UNT. That needs to change.

With focused, passionate, visionary leadership that has uncompromising faith in the uniqueness and promise of osteopathic medical training, there are no limits to the future achievements of this venerable Fort Worth icon.

Do not allow poor leadership to ruin our treasure.
