FORT WORTH - City officials said they got caught up to last week's payroll on Monday, after a procedural error caused delays in posting paychecks to thousands of employees.
The city sent a message to employees at 12:30 p.m. Monday, saying its records showed all payroll deposits had been disbursed and direct deposits made."From what we understand, everybody got paid" as of Monday, Bill Begley, city spokesman said. "If you didn't get paid, contact us.""More importantly," he said, employees charged non-sufficient-funds fees by their banks or creditors should bring the city documentation by 5 p.m. Feb. 1."And we'll look into whether we can reimburse you or not," based on a determination of whether the problem occurred because of the direct deposit error, he said. The city said it's aware that some employees will be assessed NSF fees "related to this unfortunate situation."Employees should first contact their bank or payee and request a fee waiver, the city said.The city urged employees to double-check their balances before writing checks or making withdrawals.The city said it also contacted other area banks to let them know what happened.The problem surfaced Friday when the city determined, that because of a city administrative error, its payroll didn't get processed on time Thursday night.Chase Bank did not process the payroll on time, and checks didn't get to the bank accounts of 6,500 to 7,000 employees Friday, as expected.City officials found the error Friday morning and asked Chase to process the payroll as quickly as possible.
