A 6-month old child was fatally injured and six people were hurt Friday morning when a minivan rolled on U.S. 287 in Wise County, authorities said.

The van was traveling south on 287 from Colorado to Alexandria, La. The driver of the minivan was in the left lane passing a tractor trailer just south of Decatur when the driver "became concerned about the proximity of the truck next to her" as the vehicles neared a slight curve, DPS Sgt. Lonny Haschel said in an email.

The driver overcorrected to the left, then veered back right, he said. The van skidded sideways and rolled several times before landing on its side.

Six of the seven passengers were ejected. Five were taken to Wise Regional Health System Hospital in Decatur. Two were taken by ambulance to hospitals in Fort Worth, he said. All the victims had serious injuries.

The 6-month old child died at a hospital.

The child had not been properly restrained in a child safety seat, and the driver did not have a license, Haschel said. No charges have been filed but the investigation is ongoing.
