AMR Chief Executive Tom Horton told employees Thursday that the company will decide on a potential merger with US Airways in "a matter of weeks."

In a letter, Horton also updated American Airlines workers on talks between the pilots unions and the two carriers as they review a memorandum of understanding on seniority and other issues in case of a merger. American's Allied Pilots Association approved the memorandum last week.

"The proposed MOU will be reviewed alongside other factors under evaluation, as part of making an informed decision about whether a merger should be pursued." Horton wrote.

AMR's board is scheduled to meet Wednesday to discuss the proposed merger.

A nondisclosure agreement between AMR and US Airways expires today.

Lockheed is awarded Patriot missile contract

Lockheed Martin was awarded a $755 million contract to provide advance-capability Patriot (Pac-3) missiles to the Army, a Lockheed official said Thursday.

Production will take place at Lockheed facilities in Dallas and Lufkin, as well as in Massachusetts, Florida and Arkansas, with a completion date of July 31, 2015.

The "hit-to-kill" Pac-3 can counter aircraft, advance cruise missiles and tactical ballistic missiles carrying weapons of mass destruction. According to Lockheed, the Pac-3 "is a quantum leap ahead of any air defense missile when it comes to the ability to protect the war fighter."
