Texas staying 'red'

Those who think Texas will become a Democratic state anytime soon will be feeling blue for a long time.

I was an emergency election judge Nov. 6 in a precinct southeast of Paschal High School in south Fort Worth. It was at least 70 percent Hispanic. With 2,100 registered voters, we recorded a 32 percent turnout, including early votes.

We were very busy all day, but at least twice as many people should have voted to show that Hispanics are now an electoral force. With a Republican Party determined to deport all illegal residents, Hispanic voters should have felt threatened enough to crush that thought.

If this year was not enough to make them turn out en masse, then I don't know what will. As a Democrat, I wish they would. But I see no reason to be optimistic about our party retaking Texas.
