Let's regulate gaming, particularly pari-mutuel wagering, instead of watching the stream of dollars pour out of the state.

Among other sources of revenue, Texas has seen many of its prized horses leave for better racing opportunities in Oklahoma, Louisiana and New Mexico, taking billions of dollars with them. By passing a smart, regulated-gaming bill in Texas that includes pari-mutuel horse racing, the entire equine sector would grow in a state whose people are already among the most horse-friendly in the nation.

Texas has to tend to whatever negatives from gaming in neighboring states but realizes none of the positive economic value. Let's write a smart gaming bill instead of letting our neighbors do it for us.
