According to "Tea Party shows signs of running out of steam" Dec. 26 and responses from readers, there is nothing big-government proponents would like better than to have Tea Partiers lay down and be quiet, even disappear.

What those proponents don't seem to realize is that, since the campaign and election period is over, many people who are not policy wonks are giving more attention to their lives and real-world concerns. This would account for a diminished amount of visible activity in Tea Party circles. Please don't assume that this points to their imminent demise. Quite the contrary, the interest and concern and activity of people who desire to keep and use more of their own money will always be a present and intense force on the political front.

The same would be true of the interest and concern and activity of civilized and law-abiding people who mind their own business. Big-government proponents never seem to realize that the very bigness they idolize leads to big-government death and the rise of smaller, faster, more efficient organisms.

Big-government proponents are on the wrong side of history, biology and common sense.
