FORT WORTH — FORT WORTH -- A man was seriously injured Monday morning when a metal barrel drum exploded in his back yard as he tried to cut it, a fire official said.
The victim, who was not identified, suffered severe head injuries, the official said. He was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital, but his condition was unavailable.Family members were in the victim's home, and rushed to help. No one else was injured.The blast occurred shortly after 11:45 a.m. in the 5000 block of Lubbock Avenue."He was using a power cutting tool," said Fort Worth Fire Department spokesman Tim Hardeman. "The container didn't have anything in it, but apparently there was some type of residue in it."Fire officials have not determined what was in the container.When he began to cut, the drum exploded, Hardeman said.
